About Cranfield

Cranfield School of Management has been offering a two-year part-time Executive MBA programme since 1981,and introduced a modular option in 2001. Having carried out extensive research into the needs of both students and employers, Cranfield launched a redesigned EMBA in 2006/07.The key elements of this are a strengthened set of core courses, a choice of integrative themes, an international study tour and a compulsory personal and professional development theme.

“Gaining an MBA while in full-time employment is a major achievement. Most participants have very demanding jobs, but part of the learning is to manage your time so that you balance your studies with the demands of your job and, most importantly, find time for families and partners. The amount of time you need to spend on your MBA studies when you are off campus will vary from school to school.

At Cranfield we reckon our students will spend around two hours a day between modules, and they have different ways of organising their study time. One modular student, who travels a lot for his job, regularly uses the time waiting in airport lounges to prepare his case studies. Others arrange to go into the office a couple of hours early each day and agree with their manager and colleagues that they won't be disturbed during that time.

Of key importance in managing your time and learning is the use of technology. We provide our EMBAs with a 'Cranfield-ready' laptop, enabling them to access learning materials, communicate with fellow students and faculty 24/7, and take part in online discussions wherever they are in the world”.

  •  Plan well in advance and ensure you keep your diary free for your residential study periods.
  • Clear the decks' at work well in advance and ensure you have effectively delegated responsibilities to key staff.
  • Share the preparatory and assignment work effectively in your learning team.
  • When on campus, focus on your MBA and do not try and do a job and a course at the same time (easier said than done!).
  • Keep a balance - the work can become all consuming of your time, make absolutely sure you keep time for your family/partner.
