The Executive MBA Program offers two executive formats Executive MBA (EMBA) and Global Executive MBA (GEMBA). EMBA and GEMBA format students learn side-by-side, progressing together through the 21-months of the program. The hybrid delivery of the program is ideal for working professionals - with two-thirds of the content delivered in-person and one-third online. The preferred work experience minimum for the Executive MBA program is five (5) years, and the full work experience range for the class is typically around 5 to 25+ years, with an average of 12-13 years of work experience. Students participate in two week-long leadership residencies that bookend the program and take place on the main Grounds of the Darden School in Charlottesville, Virginia. Immersive weekend residencies typically occur one weekend a month in the Washington, D.C., area. Live, synchronous online class sessions take place most Tuesday and Thursday evenings during the first year of the program. During the second year of the program, the timing of online classes can vary depending upon the electives a student chooses. EMBA format students engage in one required week-long global residency and GEMBA format students participate in four required week-long global residencies, choosing from a diverse slate of locations spanning all major continents. EMBA format students may add additional global residencies for an additional fee per residency (space and availability permitting).
