In the 2025-2026 academic year, the Alberta School of Business at the University of Alberta (Canada) made a significant upgrade to how its students learn. The school opened a dedicated Business Analytics Lab in Fall 2025, designed to give students the tools, technologies, and hands-on learning opportunities they need to turn raw information into actionable insight. “Students deliver interactive dashboards and reports that help managers understand why something happened, what might happen next, and what actions should be taken. This gives businesses practical insights and decision tools they can directly implement.”

One of the lab’s more distinctive features is its explicit focus on business partnerships. Companies are able to work directly with students and faculty to co-develop AI-driven solutions, test data-informed strategies, and participate in analytics challenges. This creates a pipeline between the university and Alberta’s business community that benefits both sides. Crucially, it means students tackle actual business problems using real data, including incomplete datasets and competing business priorities.
